Export potential of the state has witnessed a
substantial progress with increasing contribution to India’s
exports. The state’s export of Software contribute to the extent of
45%, out of its total exports followed by pharmaceuticals, the
contribution of which has been about 22% by December 2006. The next
biggest segment of exports from the state include leather, animal
and marine products as also engineering items and agri business
products which respectively stood at 10, 7 and 6%. Exports from the
state have been growing on an average rate of 20% per annum over the
last five yars. With the emphasis laid on promoting a variety of
Special Economic Zones/SEZs from textiles and garments, footwear and
sports apparels, food processing and agri products, gems and
jewellery and health sector related products, exports are expected
to significantly increase once the units in SEZ’s become
operational. In view of this the FAPCCI mooted a proposal for
setting of an International Trade Facilitation Centre (ITFC) for
helping exporters and importers to overcome the difficulties they
face in trading with their counterparts elsewhere. The State
Government accepted the proposal with its budget allocation support. |
